I'm deeply concerned about the proposed solar farms in our beloved town, Clinton, IL. This issue is personal to me as I believe solar farming, like any other large-scale project, can come with serious negative impacts on our environment, economy, lifestyles, and property values.

The proposed sites for the solar farms are a concern as it’s a potential loss of prime agricultural land, which is essential for our local economy. Displacement of natural wildlife that thrives in this county is a big issue as well.

Additionally, many studies have shown that solar farms can lead to a decrease in property values. A comprehensive study by the London School of Economics found that homes within a mile of large-scale solar installations saw their values fall by an average of 3 to 7 percent (Source: London School of Economics, 2020).

This project also threatens the rural charm of Clinton, IL. The peace and tranquility we cherish could be replaced by the distracting visual impact of thousands of solar panels.

While the move towards renewable energy is a commendable global trend, it is important that it does not come at the cost of current residents’ well-being, property values, and the local environment. Thus, I implore every resident of Clinton, IL, and every supporter of responsible renewable energy development to join me and sign this petition. Let's urge our local government to reconsider this particular project and explore other less impactful alternatives for renewable energy. Together, we can make a difference.
