Halt the Proposed Demolition of Hillsdale Mall for Housing Development

The Issue

My cherished memories at Hillsdale Mall are potentially on the brink of demolition. This landmark serves as a hub for young people like myself to gather, connect and create memories. It has been our solution to quick shopping needs, our go-to meeting spot, and for some, like myself, it represents our first job opportunity. The planned demolition is not merely tearing down a structure, but ripping a community apart.

The Hillsdale Mall has provided us a home outside our homes, and now, the city aims to overhaul this place for housing. While the need for housing is undeniable, erasing the social and employment opportunities associated with the mall is counterproductive. Over 1200 jobs are tied to Hillsdale Mall (source: Hilldale Mall Employment Records) and these should be safeguarded. Furthermore, it bolsters local businesses and contributes significantly to the city's economy. These benefits must be considered.

The mall is more than brick and mortar; it embodies relationships, experiences, hopes, and dreams. So let us lend our voices towards preserving this symbol of our community. Sign this petition to protest against the proposed demolition of Hillsdale Mall. Let our collective voice echo in the city's decision-making corridors and ensure our beloved mall remains standing, ready to serve and create memories for generations to come.
