Halt the Proposed Commercial Solar Project in Quogue

The Issue

In the tranquil Village of Westhampton Beach, a commercial solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) project is threatening to disrupt our peaceful natural environment. This massive project would result in the clear-cutting of 13 treasured acres of wildlife woodlands, replacing it with a veritable industrial field of 8' commercial solar panels and a BESS system, situated disconcertingly close to a residential neighborhood.

The implications of the project are alarming and extend far beyond the aesthetics of our village. Our diverse local wildlife population, which depends on the lush habitat of the refuge, will be permanently disrupted. Hiking trails, beloved by both locals and visitors, will be severely impacted. These trails not only contribute to the quality of our individual experiences but bear significance to our tourism industry, which is a vital part of our economy and donations to the Quogue Wildlife Refuge.

We must remember that renewable energy is meant to foster a harmonious relationship with nature, not destroy it. While the pursuit of renewable energy is a laudable goal, it is essential that such initiatives do not come at the severe cost of our local environment's health.

We respectfully request the Village of Westhampton Beach to reassess the proposed project and explore alternative, less harmful approaches to its renewable energy efforts. Your signature validates your commitment to protect our natural landscapes, the wildlife that calls it home, and the cherished serenity of our community. Please sign this petition today to voice your opposition to the proposed commercial solar and BESS project.
