The Issue

For generations, we have called the agricultural lands of Crook County our home, cultivating the soil and creating sustenance. Today, our cherished land stands at risk due to a proposed biomass facility and a drastic planned urban growth boundary expansion. These drastic changes threaten to pollute our air and contaminate our waters, degrading the lands we hold so dear.

This is not just an environmental crisis, but also a threat to a way of life honed over generations. The implications of this project extend far beyond the region's boundaries since it involves the potential destruction of a significant part of our local ecosystem. Not only will existing farmlands be irreparably damaged, but our community health will also suffer from the inevitable pollution. Specifically, studies have shown that biomass facilities release a high volume of pollutants such as particulate matter and nitrous oxides which are extremely harmful to human health, leading to risks such as respiratory diseases, heart conditions, and even premature death (Environmental Health Perspectives, 2020).

The development also threatens our local economy since Crook County heavily depends on its agricultural sector. If the planned 671-acre urban expansion goes ahead, the economic fallout could be disastrous. We urge our local authorities to reconsider these developments and explore more sustainable options that will ensure the well-being of both our community and environment.

Let's stand together to protect our home and our way of life by voicing our disapproval of this project. Sign the petition now, help us halt the biomass facility and the urban expansion in Crook County.
