Halt the Installation of Additional Sidewalks on Edminston Drive, Fergus, ON

The Issue

I am a resident of Edminston Drive in Fergus, ON. Our quiet crescent already has a sidewalk on one side of the street which adequately serves our pedestrian traffic. The township's plan to install an additional sidewalk on the other side is not only unnecessary but also poses several problems for us residents.

Edminston Drive is not a busy thoroughfare; it's a crescent with limited pedestrian traffic. The existing sidewalk has served us well without any reported incidents or complaints about its adequacy. Adding another sidewalk will limit driveway parking for residents like myself and many others who rely on this space for their vehicles.

The forced shift to street parking will increase congestion and create safety hazards. More parked cars lining the street would obstruct visibility for drivers and pedestrians alike, increasing the risk of accidents in our peaceful neighborhood.

In a study completed by the University of Toronto, it is shown that increased street parking exhibits a heightened crash risk that is often attributed to factors such as reduced road width, decreased visibility, and interruptions to traffic flow. Moreover, this project seems like an unwarranted use of municipal resources that could be better spent improving infrastructure where it's truly needed in Fergus.

We urge the township to reconsider this decision and prioritize resident safety over unnecessary infrastructure development. Please sign this petition to help preserve our community's peace and safety by halting plans for additional sidewalks on Edminston Drive.
