Thank you to the 807 people who have already signed — we are pushing toward 1,000 signatures to shine a light on what is happening at the immigration detention center in the Florida Everglades, known as “Alligator Alcatraz.”
According to new court filings reported by WGCU and the Associated Press (Sept. 14, 2025):
Detainees still face unconstitutional barriers to meeting with lawyers.
Clients are often transferred just before scheduled visits and sometimes left out of ICE’s online locator system.
During video meetings, people are placed in non-soundproof cages with staff listening in, violating attorney-client confidentiality.
Lawyers must schedule visits three days in advance, giving the facility time to move detainees and block access.
Conditions remain unsanitary, and detainees are increasingly cut off from the legal system.
Lawsuits argue that Florida has no authority to operate such a facility, yet it continues after Trump and DeSantis fast-tracked its opening this summer.
This makes our call louder: Alligator Alcatraz must be shut down. Please keep sharing the petition so we can reach 1,000 signatures and beyond — every signature strengthens the case for accountability and justice.
