I want to share the very latest on Alligator Alcatraz and why our collective voice is more important than ever.

Earlier this year, a federal judge ruled that the facility had been built illegally and ordered it dismantled. For a short time, detainee transfers stopped, and it looked like the end was near.

But last month, a federal appeals court paused that shutdown order. This means the detention center has resumed operations while the appeal plays out. Advocacy groups now report that many detainees are “disappearing” from ICE’s online system making them untrackable by families and lawyers.

 
Why This Matters

This is not just an immigration issue. It is about:

Human dignity — Reports of contaminated food, lack of medical care, and denial of legal rights persist.
Rule of law — The facility was built without required environmental review or tribal consultation.
Accountability — Detainees are vanishing from public records with no oversight.
