Halt the Imposition of a Mandatory Water Districting Fee on Lima Residents

The Issue

The Lima, NY water districting plan imposed by the government has brought an alarming financial burden to our community. As residents who chose not to use public water services, we found ourselves having to pay a hefty annual fee for a staggering period of 30 years. Looming over us is a charge that starts at $650 annually, excluding additional costs for the installation of fittings from the street to our homes, separate meters for our well water, and sizable charges for the actual annual water consumption. This adds up to an almost unaffordable $1,700 every year.

This scenario plagues our beautiful town of Lima, where most residents are either already retired or looking forward to enjoying their retirement years. The water fee imposition is nowhere near justifiable in the face of our community members who lived their lives working hard, contributing to society, and are now facing tough economic circumstances. The water districting plan blatantly targets average households and avoids providing financial strain equally upon all socioeconomic levels, placing an unjust burden on us.

This policy is not only a clear case of governmental overreach but also a regressive tax system strategy that hurts lower-income households the most. It is time we stand against such practices and make our voices heard. Through our collective action, we can overturn this unjust fee imposition and pave the way for fairer and more equitable policies.

We urge you to sign this petition; together we can stop the governmental overreach in Lima, NY, and restore justice to our community.
