Halt the Implementation of Standards-Based Grading in McCall Middle School's 7th and 8th Grades

Halt the Implementation of Standards-Based Grading in McCall Middle School's 7th and 8th Grades
The Issue
We are a group of 8th graders at McCall Middle School who are working toward slowing the implementation of Standards Based Grading in the 7th and 8th grades. As concerned residents of Winchester, MA, we are deeply troubled by the recent changes in our education system. A group of teachers in our public school system have started to advocate for the the implementation of standards-based grading for the 7th and 8th grades. This is a major issue since we don't want our next generation to be lagging behind educationally.
Standards-based grading is a system where students are assessed based on their understanding of specific skills or knowledge areas, rather than an overall grade for a subject. While this approach may seem progressive, it can lead to confusion and stress among students who are used to traditional grading systems.
Furthermore, research suggests that standards-based grading may not be as effective as traditional methods. A study by the University of Alberta found that there was no significant improvement in student achievement with standards-based grading (University of Alberta Study on Standards-Based Grading).
We need your help to ensure our children receive an education that prepares them adequately for their future endeavors. If you're a parent or guardian with children at McCall Middle School or simply a concerned citizen who cares about the quality of education in Winchester, we urge you to join us.
By signing this petition, you're voicing your concern about standards-based grading at McCall Middle School and advocating for an educational system that truly serves its students' best interests. Let's work together towards ensuring our students walk into Winchester High School confident and well-prepared! Please sign this petition today!
