Residents in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon could see a 5.5 per cent hike to their property taxes also a 5.9% increase in utility as part of Peel Region’s 2025 budget.

Our personal situation brings us here today, urging for urgent action against the skyrocketing property taxes. We, like many of our neighbors, sit at the brink of financial distress, as the cost of living continues to rocket skywards. Our property taxes have become an unbearable burden that we struggle to afford.

Nationally, property tax burdens have grown by 6.5% year over year since 2023. That's more than triple the rate of inflation and double the increase in average hourly wages. (Source: The Tax Foundation). This disproportionate growth is unbearably squeezing families and individuals, along with small businesses, who can least afford it.

We call on our local legislators and decision-makers to immediately review and adjust the property tax calculations that negatively impact us. We request a more equitable system, ensuring that the most vulnerable among us don't shoulder such an immense burden.
