Halt the Extension of Overland Pass Turbine Project in Sedgwick County

The Issue

Hello, we are residents of Sedgwick County in Colorado, this petition is deeply personal to us. We are surrounded by the blissful serenity and peaceful silence intrinsic to nature. Our quality of life, the tranquility that surrounds us, is threatened by the proposed extension of the Overland Pass Turbine Project.

The current project will significantly alter the natural landscape, with turbines dominating the skyline, replacing the previously untouched horizon. The proposed expansion threatens to exacerbate this, bringing more noise, more intrusion, and higher levels of stress and discomfort for the residents.

Wind farms create noise, measured at an average of 40-45 decibels, that may seem comparable to the background noise of a city, but for rural counties like Sedgwick, this can be a substantial increase and may potentially lead to sleep disturbances (World Health Organization, 2018). Furthermore, the visual impact of these wind turbines massively disrupts the natural beauty and could potentially decrease property values (University of Connecticut, 2014).

We acknowledge the importance of renewable energy, but it must not come at the cost of the health and happiness of the community. We urge our county officials to call a moratorium on the extension of the Overland Pass Turbine Project. Let's prioritize the wellbeing of our community and ensure Sedgwick County remains home to its residents, not industrial turbines. Please forward this to all Sedgwick County residents and landowners. Please support us in our fight for a harmonious living environment by signing this petition.  Your voice matters!
