Halt the Exie Solar Project to Preserve Greensburg KY's Land
The Issue
I am a resident of Greensburg, KY, and I am deeply concerned about the implications of the proposed Exie Solar Project by National Grid Renewables. This endeavor aims to establish solar "farms" that threaten to obliterate 1,800 acres of our precious local land, forever changing our landscapes and habitats. What's more, there will be a severe impact on the environment and biodiversity of our region.
As enthusiastic nature lovers, we recognize the effects on native wildlife that arise from this.
Greensburg has a proud history of agriculture and nature preservation, and our 1,800 acres are an essential part of our identity and economy. Should these solar farms be established, a significant portion of our land will be irreversibly transformed, impacting agriculture, wildlife, and natural beauty alike. While solar panels do have their place--from the roofs of buildings or along busy highways--destroying America's farmland and heartland is NOT the answer. Solar panels rendering thousands of acres of farmland unusable aren't the solution for Green County's future; rather, it's the bulldozer that brings this destruction.
This project offers limited benefits to Green Countians. At present, we lack information about the long-term effects on land adjacent to solar projects, as well as how residing near a solar farm might affect the long-term health of residents.
1. Prime farmland should not be taken out of production for this purpose.
2. The beauty of Green County would be irreversibly damaged.
3. Property values would greatly diminish.
4. Agribusiness would suffer from lost patronage from these farmers.
5. Drinking water and underground streams would be affected by the erosion and runoff of possible cancer-causing agents.
6. Wildlife habitat would be affected by the fencing barriers, heat, and noise from these facilities.
7. Taxpayers could be burdened heavily in the event something does not go as planned in operations.
8. There would be very little positive impact on our county.
9. Unknown health risks
Hence, we make a plea to those in power. We urge you to halt the Exie Solar Project and work with us to find alternatives that can create a sustainable, clean energy future without the sacrifice of our precious land. Please, protect the integrity of Greensburg and its inhabitants. Sign this petition and stand with us to halt the Exie Solar Project.
