Halt the execution of three mountain lions in Colorado

Halt the execution of three mountain lions in Colorado
The Issue
The recent decision by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) to execute two adult mountain lions and potentially a third is deeply troubling. This happened on Jan. 2, 2025. These animals are set to be killed following the death of a woman in a region recognized as a natural mountain lion habitat. Yet, crucially, there has been no clear, public presentation of evidence connecting these specific mountain lions to the incident.
Wildlife faces constant challenges in a world dominated by human activity. These creatures are often left voiceless, facing dire consequences simply for existing in their natural habitats. The CPW's aggressive response appears to be less about wildlife management and more about unfounded retribution — a disconcerting stance in a time when we should be striving for coexistence, not conflict.
Current wildlife management practices must adhere to principles of justice and evidence-backed decisions, not knee-jerk actions. Without transparent and conclusive evidence, executing these mountain lions is nothing short of tragic and unjust. Every creature, even a mountain lion, deserves a voice and a fair pursuit of truth.
While the situation is heartrending, it is also an opportunity to reflect on our treatment of wildlife and reconsider policies that prioritize lethal measures over understanding and cohabitation. By signing this petition, you are standing for a world where wildlife management aligns with values of empathy, fairness, and evidence.
Join us in asking CPW to:
- Halt the kill order immediately until further evidence is available.
- Conduct a transparent investigation into the woman's death.
- Explore non-lethal methods of safeguarding human and animal interactions.
Our natural world is intricate and interconnected, and it’s our responsibility to protect it with integrity and wisdom. Sign this petition today to halt the unnecessary and unjust execution of these mountain lions and pave the way for a more just approach to 'wildlife management' in Colorado.
It’s time “wildlife management” stopped being a euphemism for killing wildlife.

📌 Suggested Message:
“I am outraged by CPW’s handling of the Jan. 2 mountain lion situation. Killing these animals without clear evidence is unjust. Your mission, "managing wildlife for the benefit of people" is fundamentally flawed. Wildlife has inherent value, independent of humans. Mountain lions are unique, sentient beings, not tools for human convenience.
Management should mean protection, not execution. Right now, ‘management’ is a euphemism for killing, and the public sees through it. It’s time to review your philosophy, look seriously at new science, reconsider outdated ideas and protect wildlife for their own sake. Currently, your actions have been to prioritize human convenience and fear. Halt these kill orders, revise your policies, and show true stewardship, not domination. Justice for these mountain lions demands nothing less.”
