As a local resident and an avid user of enjoyed state land and trails, I'm deeply concerned by the proposed plans to disrupt over 400 acres of state land, inclusive of a where a major public trail head within our community currently exists. The sheer magnitude of this issue extends beyond personal concerns - it resonates with numerous families within our community who regularly utilize these natural spaces for recreation and peace of mind. The destruction is not only a blatant disgrace to the people of Gaylord, but it’s also a deep betrayal of our trust. We believed that our sacred state lands would remain inviolate and never be jeopardized for selfish interests. 

It is important to consider that the natural lands in Gaylord, as in many parts of Michigan, play a crucial role in maintaining local biodiversity and climate balance. Disrupting these lands and trails could have a catastrophic impact on local ecosystems, including the wildlife that calls these spaces home. The proposed destruction also underlines the ongoing exploitation of northern Michigan's natural resources for the benefit of a few. And while economic growth is important, it should not come at the expense of our natural heritage.

Now is the time to draw a line in the sand. Now is the time to stand up and ensure the preservation of our sacred state land, to avert the desecration of natural beauty, and safeguard our cherished northern Michigan’s natural resources.
