Halt the Development of Appalachian Outlaw Trails Resort To Preserve Local Freedom

The Issue

We, the inhabitants of and around Kanawha County, have adored the unity that our local mountains provide for many years; from our families, to our friends and other locals. For decades, we have enjoyed riding across our iconic mountains without the burden of costs or the interruption of tourists. Our beloved trails and hills, which has long been a source of free entertainment for us, is now under threat due to the proposed development of the Appalachian Outlaw Trails resort.

The administrators of Appalachian Outlaw Trails plan to take over 100,000 acres, starting with 2,000 of our cherished hills and transform them into a commercial playground with resorts, cabins, and trails for ATVs, Dirtbikes, Jeeps, Trucks and more. This drastic change, which is set to have it’s first event in spring of 2026, will not only strip us of our generational traditions, but also impose a fee for utilizing what we always considered our birthright.

This mountain range, our invaluable treasure, is currently at risk of being torn apart and reshaped for commercial purposes. Our community is deeply anguished and escalated in opposition to this insidious venture.

We urge our representatives to intervene immediately in this looming crisis. Save our mountains, protect our streets, halt the proposal of converting our trails into a resort that serves only to line the pockets of a few at the expense of many. Sign this petition today to stop the commercialisation of our mountains, and to preserve our invaluable heritage of free-riding.
