Halt the Destruction of Old Buildings and Protect Wildlife in Croydon
The Issue
Swiss lodge survived a doodlebug explosion please save her please 🙏
I am a lifelong resident of Croydon and deeply invested in the unique charm, character, and natural beauty of our town. Yet, we are at risk of losing the essence that makes Croydon special. Our council is tearing down too many family homes to make way for flats, altering our architectural heritage and neighborhood character. This also includes the property at 159 Church Road, Shirley, a place home to beautiful trees and valuable wildlife. These structures form not just our built environment, but a habitat for numerous native species.
Our local government's push for urbanization is threatening our wildlife. Urban development is one of the primary drivers of wildlife loss, with a 68% drop in global wildlife populations since 1970, according to the Global Wildlife Conservation. This impact is very real in our town, as we see the trees being felled and the critters driven away from their homes.
It's time to take a stand for our community's heritage and wildlife population. We need to discourage the over-development that's erasing Croydon's unique, vibrant character and causing harm to our local ecosystem. Moreover, historic preservation can serve as a facilitator for economic and community development - contributing to sustainability, according to the National Trusts for Historic Preservation.
We call on the Croydon Council to refuse further planning permission for conversion of family homes into flats, appoint a heritage conservation officer, and maintain the ecology of our green patches like the one at 159 Church Road, Shirley. Our wildlife – and our town's unique identity – cannot afford to be compromised any further. Sign this petition to save Croydon's character and wildlife, because every signature gets us one step closer to preserving the heart of our town.
Currently me and my young son could really do with this home. Croydon Council keeps us trapped in mould hell with a structural defect issue built into the building. There us no way to fix it court cases children's commissioner for England. They have empty homes I would like to turn this building into something for everyone. A recycled art project for Croydon which I've been doing for the last five years now. While campaigning if you can't paint wet walls paint something else stay postive. My son would so appreciate his outside space back with some freedom. Please sign please share let's save the animals and bring the building back to life. This is also a historical building the archbishop of Canterbury. William howley use to live here it was built between 1766 to 1848. Making it one of the original buildings to Addington farm. This building definitely needs to be saved just because of its historical history to Croydon. It needs your help massively as in two weeks time Croydon Council planners. Have agreed to let a investors company take sledge hammers to it and a bulldozer. This building needs your help please sign and share swiss lodge needs you. Hundreds of years of historical history is just about to be lost. For eight glass new build flats we don't make buildings like this no more. Please help me save a tiny bit of history here in Croydon.
