Halt the Deportation of Mwanaheri, a Valued Member of Toronto's East African Community

The Issue

Mwanaheri has made a substantial cultural and social contribution to the Hamilton and Toronto GTA community, as well as to the Tanzanian and East African communities in Canada. She has volunteered for more than two years at the Swahili Society Centre, where she has helped the younger volunteers learn Swahili and provided them with support. Apart from her voluntary activities. She has also made a substantial contribution to the empowerment of young girls and women as well as newcomers by helping them integrate into the greater Canadian Black Community called "Sauti Yetu" which means "Our Voice".

Mwanaheri is a leader in the Tanzania community's bereavement category where she is  supporting families who have lost loved ones during the funeral, she is in charge of gathering the funds. Mwanaheri has successfully raised money through GoFundMe and given it to the communities to help with  funeral costs and other expenses. She helps people in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, and the Congo in both Calgary, Hamilton and Toronto GTA.

Mwanaheri has devoted the last six years of her life to working in the Canadian healthcare system. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she served seniors  in long-term care facilities. Even though Mwanaheri contracted COVID -19 several times while working at the St. George care community, she continued to play as a team and assisted patients in receiving the care they required. When necessary, Mwanaheri provides care to several care institutions in Mississauga Welbrook and downtown Toronto. In order to ensure that clients were served during the COVID-19 pandemic's staff shortage, she worked double shifts. Because of her excellent performance at the facility where she worked as the Environment Service Staff, Mwanaheri was eventually promoted into the Leadership job  as a Supervisor in 2023.

Her impending deportation by Canadian Immigration threatens not just to upend her life but also to deprive our community of a valuable member. Furthermore, her commitment to the St Georgia Care Community Team puts at risk her staff, clients, and Leadership Team. Her departure will create a gap in our society that will be difficult to fill, and it will adversely impact those who depend on her support.

We are therefore calling on all compassionate residents of Hamilton, Toronto and Calgary , Canada to join us in urging Canadian Immigration authorities to reconsider their decision. Let's stand together for Mwanaheri and demonstrate our commitment to protecting members of our diverse community who contribute positively towards making GTA a vibrant place for all.
