The Wahiawa and Whitmore communities have been vocal since 2020 about their opposition to the Wahiawa Pedestrian Bridge project. This construction not only disregards the wishes of the local residents but also threatens the sanctity and natural beauty of one of the last untouched streams on Oahu. The area surrounding Kūkaniloko, which holds profound cultural and historical significance as sacred land, deserves respect and preservation rather than unwarranted development.

The allocation of financial resources towards this project seems misguided when our community has pressing needs that remain unaddressed. The absence of necessary infrastructure, such as safe sidewalks and adequate school bus services, is a daily challenge for our residents, impacting the safety and wellbeing of our families and children. Instead of forging ahead with this unwanted bridge, funds should be redirected to address these basic necessities that truly reflect the needs of our local community.

Currently, there is an overwhelming sentiment of disapproval from Hawaii ko pae aina, and by proceeding with this bridge, authorities are ignoring the voices of those who live and cherish this land. We stand by the belief that development should benefit the community and adhere to its requirements, not impose unwanted changes.
