We are residents of Sugar Land, living just a stone's throw away from the designated location of a proposed Rapid-Start natural gas power plant. With our homes, our kids schools and our lives deeply rooted in this community, we feel the urgent need to raise our voices against this irresponsible project. There is a looming threat of unpredictable harm including air, water and noise pollution. The detrimental environmental implications linked with natural gas power plants are well-documented. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), natural gas power plants emit harmful compounds like nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide which can have negative effects on health conditions for those residing nearby. Furthermore, the World Health Organisation's reports indicate that noise pollution from such industrial activities can lead to stress-related illnesses, high blood pressure, sleep disruption, and other health issues. The proposed project brings no discernible benefits to our community. Instead, it brings the looming potential for irreversible damage to our health, our environment, and our peace of mind. What’s more, the power generated by the planned power plant will only be merged to ERCOT power grid, instead of contributing to our local grid! We demand that Sugar Land government stops their plan on the construction of this Rapid-Start gas power plant nearby our residential areas for the well-being of our community.
