We, local residents and business owners of East Norwich and Muttontown, NY, rally against the proposal to establish a 24-hour Super 7-11 with 16 pumps on the former IHOP site, including the sale of diesel fuel. This progression is a clear and present threat to the safety of our children, our precious neighborhood streets, the tranquility of our homes, and the vitality of our local businesses. Our community thrives on the bedrock principle of its residential nature and small-town charm which will be gravely undermined with such a development. As there is already a Town Code that prohibits the 24 hour operations of such a facility, we strongly urge the Town Planning Board to deny any applications submitted for purposes of building this Super 7-11.

Additional negative implications include an increase in traffic, noise, pollution and crime, each one detrimental in its own right to our daily lives. Various studies corroborate that an upsurge in vehicular movement, especially during late hours, is linked to heightened noise and air pollution levels (Source: US Environmental Protection Agency). This unsettling prospect builds upon our concerns for the well-being of our children and the serene environment we are fighting to preserve in East Norwich and Muttontown.

The local economy of our town relies heavily on family-owned, local businesses who will suffer enormously if a mega-convenience store commences operations.
