Halt the Construction of 2700 Houses in Muxton and The Humbers
The Issue
As a local resident, I am deeply concerned about the proposed development of 2700 houses across Muxton and The Humbers. This project threatens to cover 76 acres of our cherished greenfield and agricultural land, equivalent to approximately 75 football fields.
Despite strong opposition from our community and previous planning applications in this area losing on appeal, we feel that we are not being heard and now being faced with multi developers joining forces during the consultation stage.
The lack of communication with residents promoting the consultation 'drop-ins' and the overly complicated cosultation portal to allow comments also highlights the concesus that our voices are not being heard and unless residents are website navigation experts; won't be heard.
With Telford exceeding house build supply as detailed in the Annual Monitoring Report again this year, the development ignores our Neighbourhood plan and does not conform with sections of the National Planning Framework. Already we have seen over 800 homes built in our hamlets with a large number empty. Once these homes are filled, there will be no education facilities for our children or medical centres available.
Alternative locations that do not encroach on our precious green spaces should be sought for future development. Telford prides itself in its greenspace, natural habitats and biodiversity which should be key in selecting development locations.
This is not just about preserving our environment; it's also about preserving our way of life. Our community values its open spaces for recreation, relaxation, and connection with nature - all things that contribute significantly to mental health and overall well-being.
Whilst the huge development notes the provision of a primary school and medical centre, this will only be of use to new residents and ignores current residents needs.
The proposals detailed include the demolition of two Duke of Sutherland Cottages circa 200 years old and ancient trees along. Natural habitats for wildlife including our Otters will be disturbed along several winding brooks.
Traffic congestion is already an issue at the Clock Tower Island along the A518. During peak times as the 'island hub' for traffic into Telford from Newport and beyond, we have had multiple collisions on the island this year plus multiple collisions on this road and tragically, two fatalities. The development will be a catalyst for more accidents and delayed motorists. The proposal includes the closure of Station Road which would mean a 2 mile round trip or navigating through a proposed housing estate, only for the road user to get to the same place on the Island which would normally take 2 minutes! The road closure would also block access to the Garden Centre and Farm Shop from the main road.
The development will have no benefit to our current residents.
We must stand together as a community against this development. Join us in calling upon decision-makers to reconsider their plans for Muxton and The Humbers. Your signature can make a difference in protecting these lands from irreversible damage.
