Halt The Closure of Police Stations by London's Mayor's Office

Halt The Closure of Police Stations by London's Mayor's Office
The Issue
As a lifelong resident of London, I speak not just for myself, but for many others - from local civilians to taxi drivers - who echo the same sentiment: we do not feel safe. Over the years, the number of police stations in our city has shrunk drastically, from 145 to a mere 36. With each closure, the sense of security in our community dissipates.
Concerning reports indicate that serious crime, including murder, has seen an alarming growth of 11% in areas where stations have been shut down. This increase in crime rate isn’t merely a number, it represents real people and their lives, threatened by this worrying uptick of crime.
The current plans issued by the Mayor's office to close more police stations is a dire mistake. The well-being of Londoners should be a top priority, and this plan directs us away from it. We urgently implore a halt to these closures and instead, deliberate on how to bolster our city's safety measures.
Knife crime is on the increase from 11,113 to 12,233. You can easily find on social media that wearing a watch in London are walking at night is no longer safe. We do not feel safe from men to women, boys to girls, elderly to the young.
Even asking someone from the US (where guns are obviously legal), their sentiment echoes the same, they are no longer visiting London because it’s not safe.
Why is no one reporting on this? I see closing police stations as one of the most obvious and fundamental mistakes causing an increase in crime in London.
The Met police budget has been increased to £3.5Bn, this petition is to stop police closures and for the government to allocate another £1Bn from less serious issues (for example £4Bn is spent on asylum seeker housing, £8Bn in the next decade in affordable housing and these numbers can be reduced not abolished).
I also request the Met Police CFO; the Directorate of Audit, Risk, and Assurance for MOPAC and the GLA confirm the full sales and any commissions of these buildings have all returned fully back into the Met Police budget for the following year.
Your signature can help this issue reach the appropriate authorities for urgent action, giving us all a chance to regain the security we once had. Sign the petition now and help keep London's streets safe.
