The Issue

This petition comes from a place of personal struggle, experiencing

firsthand the challenges posed by EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) and SENDs (Special Educational Needs and Disability). My daughter and grandchild, like many others, are entangled in a rigorous and intensely personal learning journey that involves child psychology assessments and years of specialized education facilitated by devoted teaching staff and funded by local councils. Unfortunately, teachers going on strike disrupts this intricate learning ecosystem, not only affecting these children and their families but also exhausting the resources of our hardworking local councils.

In addition to this, I harbor serious concerns about the way teacher strikes affect our children's perception of authority and societal rules. By disregarding their responsibilities and walking out on their jobs, teachers, assistant teaching staff and all educational personnel involved are setting a defiant example to their students. This goes against teaching our children the importance of commitment, respect for rules and the value of education itself.

Forcing parents and children to suffer the consequences of these strikes is unfair and detrimental to the educational progress of students under EHCP and SENDs. Additionally, these strikes pose a financial burden to local councils who should be duly reimbursed by the striking educational staff.

Join me in urging our education authorities and local councils to enforce measures that prevent teacher strikes. Protect the rights of every child to a stable, uninterrupted education. Vet and implement effective conflict-resolution strategies that ensure teachers' complaints are heard and acknowledged without sacrificing the fundamental rights of our children to education. It is time to prioritize our children's welfare above all. Please sign this petition.
