Social Security is a bedrock of our society, providing critical financial support to retirees, families, disabled individuals, and survivors of deceased workers. We ask to stop any effort aimed at its privatization. Privatizing such a public institution disrupts the safety net it serves to provide. Moreover, with 64 million Americans currently benefiting from it (Source: Social Security Administration), the risk and instability associated with privatization could have far-reaching effects.

We also urge for a raise in the Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) Cap. Currently, only the first $142,800 of a person's annual income is subject to FICA taxes (Source: IRS, 2021). This cap disproportionately affects middle-class workers who must pay a higher percentage of their income than those who earn more. Raising or eliminating the FICA cap could help to create a more equitable system and extend the solvency of the Social Security program.
