Halt Senate Bill 354 in Georgia: Protect Licensing Requirements for Barbers & Cosmetologists

Halt Senate Bill 354 in Georgia: Protect Licensing Requirements for Barbers & Cosmetologists
The Issue
As a dedicated advocate for the Cosmetology & Barber industry, I am deeply concerned about the potential consequences of Senate Bill 354 in Georgia. This bill threatens to remove licensing requirements for barbers and cosmetologists, allowing anyone to use razors, chemicals, or other products without proper education or knowledge.
Cosmetology and barbering are not just about cutting hair; they are science-based professions that require an understanding of the human body, chemical composition, disease prevention and infection control. By removing licensing requirements we risk endangering public health by potentially exposing clients to untrained practitioners who lack this crucial knowledge.
Style Mobb University's mission is to empower these industries by increasing awareness and respect for their study, artistry and professional practice. We believe in promoting access to quality education and resources as well as financial sustainability within the industry.
In 2019 alone there were over 80k licensed professionals working in these fields across Georgia (source: Bureau of Labor Statistics). These individuals have undergone rigorous training to ensure they provide safe services while maintaining high standards of professionalism.
Senate Bill 354 undermines this professionalism by suggesting that anyone can perform these tasks without training or certification. This not only devalues our profession but also puts consumers at risk.
We urge you to join us in opposing Senate Bill 354. Let's protect our professionals' credibility and our consumers' safety by ensuring proper education remains a requirement for licensure within the cosmetology & barber industry. Please sign this petition today!
