I have called Perkasie, Pennsylvania home for the past 30 years. Over this time, I've witnessed significant changes, notably in the past five years alone, where two major townhouse developments were erected within just half a mile of one another. Astonishingly, these developments followed major flooding events that adversely affected countless homes and businesses within our quaint community. Yet, despite this history of flooding, there's a push to further rezone and develop an area already burdened by overcrowding and more frequent deluges.

Our beloved area, nestled between several neighborhoods, a bustling shopping center, a tire company, and just a stone's throw away from a creek, is under threat. Moreover, the land in question is not merely a patch of earth—it’s a vital, wooded space, possibly close to crucial wetland areas and a large pond, both of which could face contamination if development proceeds. The strain of such rapid development is not just on infrastructure; it pressures local wildlife, squeezing them out of their natural habitats and disrupting the balance of nature that has thrived here for generations.

The beautiful woodland areas and their rich ecosystems are at risk of being erased for the sake of expansion. This is not just a potential ecological catastrophe but a loss of identity. Our small-town charm is slipping through our fingers, and with every new development, that unique character which drew many of us here diminishes. Moreover, as Perkasie becomes a more sought-after area, our taxes steadily climb. It's a spiral: the borough sells out for more development, and we residents are left paying the price, both financially and emotionally.

We must act now to protect our community’s character and our well-being. It is critical to halt the rezoning and development plans that fail to account for the needs and voices of those living here. Let's preserve the heritage of Perkasie before it's too late—preserve the woodlands, protect the wildlife, and maintain our town's unique character against overdevelopment.
