The Issue

I am a resident whose home and agricultural land are under threat - a large battery energy facility is planned to be built right next to our property - 1100 S and Springboro Rd by a company Spearmint Energy. .This is an urgent plea on behalf of myself and the community around me who will inevitably be affected by the environmental, safety and health risks this facility may pose.

Battery energy storage systems (BESS) are known to carry a host of environmental hazards. They can potentially leak harmful chemicals into the ground, which can contaminate soil already burdened by the pollution of modern society (source: Environmental Protection Agency review on battery factory risks). Along with this, the production of batteries itself can result in the release of toxic gas into the atmosphere, further contributing to air pollution.

Safety is another issue of high concern. Battery energy facilities carry the risk of fire with energy storage systems capable of combusting under certain conditions (source: National Fire Protection Association). This could pose a significant threat to nearby residents and their properties and our First Responders.

Another worrying factor is the impact on our health. Prolonged exposure to the elements released in battery production can lead to an array of health issues, including respiratory and skin problems (source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).

Finally, let's consider the impact on local property values. As potential homebuyers become aware of the risks associated with living near such a facility, property values in our area are expected to decrease significantly, leaving many homeowners, including myself, in an unmanageable situation.

For the sake of our health, safety, environment and ultimately, for the preservation of our homes, I urge you to stop the construction of this battery energy facility. Please sign the petition and stand with us to protect our homes and environment.
