Halt North Brunswick Township Data Center
The Issue
As a dedicated resident of North Brunswick and a fierce advocate for sustainable development, I am compelled to raise my voice against the planned construction of a data center in our township. Having consistently opposed similar projects across New Jersey, I have become intimately familiar with the fleeting advantages and significant adverse impacts that accompany such developments.

The establishment of data centers, while seemingly beneficial in terms of technological advancement and job opportunities, presents serious long-term drawbacks that far outweigh any short-term gains. These centers are notorious for their excessive energy consumption, contributing significantly to carbon emissions and straining local power grids. This not only exacerbates our environmental challenges but also undermines New Jersey's commitment to combating climate change. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, data centers consume about 2% of the total electricity in the United States, a figure set to rise as demand grows.
Furthermore, data centers generate substantial noise pollution. The constant hum and drone of servers and cooling systems disrupt the peace and quiet of our communities, affecting not only quality of life but also property values. Reports from areas with existing data centers show a disturbing pattern of increased noise complaints and diminishing real estate prospects for nearby residents.
Moreover, the massive water consumption required for cooling purposes places an undue burden on our water resources. In a time when water scarcity is becoming increasingly pronounced, it is irresponsible to divert precious resources to facilities that benefit a small number of shareholders while the local community bears the cost.
The data center in North Brunswick Township also poses a serious risk of increased traffic congestion. The influx of construction vehicles, maintenance crews, and future employees will exacerbate already strained roadways, leading to more frequent traffic jams, higher accident rates, and further decay of our transportation infrastructure.
It is vital that we prioritize thoughtful, community-centered development that aligns with our ecological and social values. Instead of data centers, let's push for projects that truly benefit our residents—be it through green spaces, renewable energy initiatives, or facilities that bolster our community's wellbeing without compromising its future.
Attend 6/29/2026 Council Meeting
710 Hermann Rd, North Brunswick, NJ 08902
Join me in urging local officials to reconsider the approval of this data center. Sign this petition to send a strong message: our township deserves sustainable growth that respects both our resources and our residents' quality of life.
