I am a resident of Ridgeway, Newport, who cherishes the rural beauty of our area. The open spaces are for many a lifeline for jogging, rambling, and  dog walking in a fresh air environment. These hills have not only kept me physically fit but also served as a lifeline for many for mental wellbeing during the Covid restrictions. However, all this is under threat by Newport Council's preferred option to build on Ridgeway.

This plan will industrialise our rural landscape and block access to the canal. It will rob us of our key local access to countryside. It will impact both quality and longevity of life.

For those whose joints can't jog well on flat surfaces like me, running or walking up local rural hills won't be possible anymore.

The view long known as "little Switzerland" would become little Stalingrad. We urge Newport Council to reconsider their plans and explore alternatives that don't involve destroying the beauty of this landscape and remove this rural land. There are many other areas on which they could build housing.
