The Issue

Our community in Salem East is on the verge of a significant change that threatens to disrupt our daily lives and the value of our homes. A proposed new development could lead to overcrowded schools, overburdened sewer systems, increased traffic on Salem Drive, and a decrease in property values.

This is not just a personal concern; it’s a reality that could affect all of us residing in this neighborhood. We've worked hard to make Salem East a great place to live. Our local schools are a core part of our community, and they are already at capacity. Adding more students would overwhelm the existing resources, affecting the quality of education children receive.

Furthermore, the influx of new residents would place an unbearable strain on our infrastructure. The sewer systems, which are already stretched to their limit, could fail, leading to possible health hazards and costly repairs that taxpayers would have to shoulder.

Traffic on Salem Drive is currently manageable, but with more residents, the likelihood of congestion and accidents will increase. This not only endangers the safety of our families but also consumes more of our time as we deal with daily gridlock.

Lastly, increased development could lead to a loss in the value of our homes. Our neighborhood has a unique charm and close-knit community, qualities that are at risk with uncontrolled development.

I urge city officials and developers to reconsider this plan and seek alternatives that prioritize the well-being of current residents. Perhaps revitalizing existing buildings or investing in infrastructure improvements could be a solution that supports both growth and community stability.

Please sign this petition to demand a halt to the proposed development and protect our cherished community in Salem East, Independence, MO.
