Petition updateHalt logging of Stanley Park! Save our coastal western hemlock forest!Vancouver Parks Board to Vote on ACCELERATING STANLEY PARK LOGGING

Vancouver City Staff will be trying to convince the Park Board to accelerate logging in Stanley Park, claiming that coastal western hemlocks are deteriorating. Where's the evidence? And why do we have a Park Board if the commissioners simply rubber stamp ABC-hired staff while ignoring scientists saying that the logging is doing far more damage than good?

Monday, December 9, 2024, 6:30 PM

2099 Beach Avenue, Vancouver

Members of the public may sign up in advance and speak for five minutes. This is your opportunity to have your voice heard!

Demand that City of Vancouver staff provide scientific evidence for their claims! Have the citizens of Vancouver given their consent to pay more to use our parks while the City spends our money to remove the ancient coastal hemlock forest in Stanley Park and replace it with a plantation?

We live in an era of disinformation and unsupported claims. Demand to see the evidence supporting the claim by City staff that dead hemlocks are rapidly deteriorating and that their logging has reduced blowdowns. Click here to see the report that will be voted on.

Please sign up to speak at the park board meeting – if we can get 100 people to sign up to speak, it would send a huge message. Here is the link. It’s the second agenda item. Meeting starts at 6:30. You can speak in person or from the comfort of your own home! Tell them to stop the logging and use whatever millions of dollars remaining to fund services for the taxpayers of this city.

Our legal strategy is ongoing, we have had little success with our recent grant applications. Few nonprofits want to take on the City of Vancouver, it seems. In order for us to continue fighting for Stanley Park and the trees, we are still asking for donations. Our goal is $20,000, which is a conservative estimate of what the legal bills will come to. We got just under $1,000 last week, so we are well on our way, but if you haven’t donated and can spare $5 or $5000, click here to get to our donation page. Alternatively, you can e-transfer a donation to donate@savestanleypark.ca or mail a cheque made out to Stanley Park Preservation Society to SPPS, 400 - 333 Terminal Ave., Vancouver, BC V6A 4C1.

Please note: Donations made on change.org cannot be used by us in our legal battle. Please use our donation page.
