The dangerous presence of heavy-duty truck traffic on Felix Rd, Florence, AZ hit home for me, and quite literally. Living on Felix Road, I have repeatedly observed its hazardous impacts on the community. But in a terrifying, recent episode, two innocent cyclists were nearly killed due to truck movements. This incident is not distinct. As per National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2020, 846 cyclists were killed in traffic crashes in the United States, a rise of 5% from previous years. The roaring truck traffic on Felix Road is a threat to the safety and tranquility of our community, our children, animals, as well as the cyclists.

Residents of Florence, AZ understand the importance of commerce and respect the drivers who make our economy function. However, the health and safety of our community are vital. There are numerous alternative routes for these trucks that would not disrupt residential areas as Felix Road does.

We ask our local officials to care about our safety as much as they do about the efficiency of trucking operations. Prohibiting the truck traffic on Felix Rd is more than an essential safety measure, it is a humanitarian issue. Let us stand together to put a halt to truck traffic on Felix Road.
