The Issue

From personal experience as a cosmetology educator for more than ten years, I recognize the critical role of quality education in the beauty industry - an industry which uniquely, other than medical professionals, is legally allowed to touch living tissue. We apply professional knowledge to beautify, cleanse or cosmetically transform clients, ensuring their safety and satisfaction. Deregulation laws threaten these standards,
potentially resulting in people who are inadequately prepared to perform intricate procedures. This risks the health and wellbeing of clients and contradicts the true value of our profession.
The assertion that deregulation will create more jobs is ill-founded. In reality, without comprehensive training, we are not cultivating professionals, but rather, individuals lacking the necessary skills to perform services to high safety and satisfaction standards. As an industry, we contribute approximately $532 billion to the US economy annually based on a report by Statista in 2019. It is not simply an economic cog but a sector that impacts personal health, self-esteem, and social interactions for millions of individuals. As such, it deserves robust regulations that uphold high professional standards and keep the public safe. Let's protect the integrity and value of the beauty industry. Please sign the petition against deregulation laws that risk devaluing our beloved industry.
