My son and I are local conservationists who regularly visit the Ash Meadows Wildlife Refuge. We have personally witnessed the devastating effects of globalism and mining on our beloved refuge. Our local tourist economy, which many Nevadans depend on for their livelihoods, is under threat as our deserts and drinking water are being destroyed due to mining.
Ash Meadows Wildlife Refuge is a sanctuary for more than 24 species found nowhere else in the world. Yet, it's under threat from lithium mining operations that not only disrupt this unique ecosystem but also pose a risk to our water supply. The extraction process of lithium involves large amounts of water, leading to depletion of groundwater resources - an alarming fact considering Nevada is the driest state in the U.S.
Moreover, according to a study by Environmental Science & Technology Journal (2010), lithium extraction can cause soil degradation and air contamination - further endangering both wildlife habitats and human health.
The state of Nevada has long been known for its rich mineral resources; however, it's time we prioritize preserving our natural heritage over short-term economic gains from mining activities.
We urge you to join us in calling upon our local representatives and state officials to halt lithium mining at Ash Meadows Wildlife Refuge immediately and cease all mining operations across Nevada. By signing this petition, you're standing up for conservation efforts that protect not just today’s Nevadans but future generations as well. Please sign this petition now!
