Halt Additional Solar Farm Installations in Tolland Massachusetts

The Issue

I live in Tolland Ma that already have two large solar farms. These facilities, while vital for clean energy production, have also transformed our once lush woodland into a flat, uniform landscape, causing irreversible harm to our local fauna and flora. The encroachment of solar farms continues to dictate the weather patterns, disrupting our native ecosystems.

Solar farms can cover hundreds of acres. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), a utility-scale solar power plant may require 5-10 acres per Megawatt (MW) of generating capacity. In contrast, undisturbed land, like our woodland, offers shelter and habitat for numerous species while also influencing local weather patterns and improving air quality.

A proposed Solar farm off Colebrook River Road reaching over to Wildwood would remove a vast amount of forest land and forever change Tolland center. The Solar Farm across from the Firehouse puts out so much noise from power inverters that homes on Clubhouse Road have complained about it to the town select board. To allow further expansion of solar farms would be to neglect the diversity and sustainability of our local natural environment. While renewable energy is crucial for our future, it should not come at the expense of our woodland's well-being and the balance of our local ecosystems. We must learn to strike a balance between renewable energy projects and land use in rural and natural areas.

Together, we can protect our remaining natural spaces. Please join me in voicing your concern over additional solar farm installations and help us preserve our local woodland and quiet serene beauty of Tolland. Please sign this petition. Thank you
