The Issue

Education should be a path to empowerment, not a source of sudden financial distress. Recently, the Management of St. Thomas College, Thrissur, implemented an abrupt and unnotified increase in the semester fees for students enrolled in aided self-financing courses.

When students and parents choose a college, they plan their finances for the entire duration of the course based on the initial fee structure. This sudden hike has caught hundreds of families off-guard, causing immense financial strain and mental agony for students who were expecting to pay the standard, agreed-upon fees for their upcoming semesters.

Furthermore, the current system lacks basic transparency. The official fee structure is not displayed on the college website, and the management has failed to provide any prior notice or justifiable reason for this sudden financial burden. As a community, we believe that education must go hand-in-hand with fairness and transparency.

Our Demands

We, the students, parents, and well-wishers of St. Thomas College, urgently request the Management to address the following:

  1. Immediate Halt to the Fee Hike: We demand an immediate rollback of the newly imposed fee increase for the current Aided & self-financing batches. Students should be allowed to pay the previously established fees.
  2. Facilitate Stakeholder Discussions: Initiate an open and democratic dialogue with the primary stakeholders—students and their parents—before making any future decisions regarding fee alterations.
  3. Absolute Transparency: Officially publish the detailed, itemized fee structure for all courses on the St. Thomas College website for public access.
  4. Prior Notice and Justification: Mandate a policy where any future modifications to the fee structure are communicated well in advance, accompanied by a clear, logical justification for the change.

Why Your Signature Matters

By signing this petition, you are standing up for student rights, financial fairness, and institutional transparency. We are simply asking the management to honor the financial commitments understood at the time of admission and to treat its student body with the respect and clarity they deserve.

Please sign and share this petition with your friends and classmates. Together, our united voices can bring about a fair resolution.
