Haleyville Alabama Mayor Ken Sunseri and city planners: Stop the building of a CVS on the birthplace of 9-1-1
The Issue
City Hall in Haleyville, Alabama is home to the countries' first 9-1-1 call. CVS has approached Haleyville, Alabama Mayor Ken Sunseri to tear down the existing structure and build a CVS location. It is important to not build a CVS on this site because something as important as 9-1-1 has its place in American history. It is not technically a historical site because of the age, but if the structure were to be maintained and shared it will undoubtedly be considered a historical site one day because of age and importance.
CVS may create a few jobs for the longevity of Haleyville, but if you replace an important American landmark with a corporate presence you lose more than what is gained from money and taxes. You will lose your sense of identity, pride, and history.
It is important to remember the ingenuity and hard work of this towns past members and the importance of their contributions that remain in our society.
It is importatnt beacause if you think about all the people that have picked up the phone in times of an emergency, and in times of fear, and think of the hope calling 9-1-1 gives people you will understand the signifigance of replacing that history with a CVS.
