Halal Meal Option at Parsonage Farm Primary School
The Issue
We are asking Parsonage Farm Primary School to introduce a halal meal option at least once a week for pupils who require or would benefit from halal food.
Parsonage Farm is a diverse and inclusive school, and its recent Ofsted inspection (2026) recognised the school’s strong culture of care and its commitment to inclusion. The report states that pupils are taught to value everyone equally, regardless of their beliefs, abilities or family circumstances, and to respect individual rights and freedom of belief.
Providing a halal meal option would be a simple and practical way of putting these values into practice and ensuring that Muslim children are able to participate more fully in school meals.
For many Muslim families, halal food is not simply a personal preference. It is an important part of religious observance. Where a halal option is unavailable, families may feel that their children have to bring food from home every day or miss out on the opportunity to enjoy the same school meal as their classmates.
We are not asking for an extensive halal menu or for the school to replace its existing meals. We are simply asking for a halal option to be offered at least once a week, alongside the existing choices, so that Muslim pupils have the opportunity to enjoy a school meal that meets their dietary and religious requirements. We are aware that many of the current offerings are available as a halal option such as the Sticky Chicken and Keralan Curry.
The school’s Ofsted report highlights the importance it places on inclusion, belonging, fairness and respect for freedom of belief. A weekly halal option would be a small but meaningful step towards ensuring that all children feel equally considered and included in every aspect of school life.
We hope the school will listen to the views of Muslim parents and pupils and work with families and its catering provider to explore a practical and sustainable way of introducing a weekly halal meal.
