Hackney Council: Shut illegal hotel in Homerton!

The former convent and grade II listed building at 100 Hassett Road has been illegally operating as a hotel for almost 2 years, during which time Hackney Council has failed to shut down its operation despite issuing an enforcement notice against its use.
Planning permission is now being recommended by the planning officers despite objections lodged against multiple applications and despite the application being against Hackney Planning regulations.
Hassett Road is a quiet residential neighbourhood, and the houses in the immediate vicinity are almost exclusively populated by young families and an aged care home. The hotel, or rather hostel, which offers rooms at incredibly low prices, has been attracting undesirable clientele to the area in addition to causing traffic and parking problems. Some of the rooms also look directly into private bedrooms and gardens.
We understand that other councils, such as Newham, Camden and Westminster, are making greater efforts to shut down such operations ahead of the 2012 Olympic Games and we are concerned that if Hackney Council does not do likewise this sets a worrying precedent for other neighbourhoods across Hackney.
We urge the planning committee to reject the planning officer's recommendation and reject these planning applications (ref 2011/3477 & 2011/3478).
