Rakhi is a festival where siblings get to show their love towards one another. Sisters tie a sacred thread called a rakhi around their brothers wrists and in turn receive a gift from them. This knot symbolizes a promise to protect each other, it is a promise of undying love and loyalty towards each other. This year, however, I thought of using this festival as a means to raise money to buy sanitary napkins for underprivileged girls. It all began when I started recycling nut cases that my father brought back whenever he flew with Indigo airlines. I had collected so many that I decided to decorate them with old decorations that were lying around at home and sold them. Not only this, I also painted the top of the box with blackboard paint so people could personalize them with a special message to their loved ones. It was a huge success! I raised rupees 4,000 with which I can buy three years worth of sanitary napkins for 21 girls!
