Guarantee Uninterrupted Access To Carnfunnock Country Park During Refurbishment
The Issue
I am a member of Friends of Carnfunnock and have been a regular user of Carnfunnock Country Park in Larne, UK, all my life. The park serves as a sanctuary for my mental and physical health, providing an environment for daily exercise and social interaction. It is a vital resource for many in our community, young and old.
Recently, the Friends of Carnfunnock local group learned about the proposed refurbishment plans by the Mid and East Antrim Borough Council. While we welcome improvements to enhance the park's facilities, we are deeply concerned about the nature of those improvements, and the potential access disruptions during this period.
Carnfunnock Country Park is more than just a recreational area; it is a lifeline for many. According to the Mental Health Foundation UK, exposure to green spaces reduces stress levels, improves mood and enhances psychological well-being. This underscores the importance of ensuring continuous access to parks like ours.
We demand that the Mid and East Antrim Borough Council provide an unequivocal guarantee that Carnfunnock Country Park will remain open at all times during the refurbishment process. We insist that this principle be central in all design plans and contractual agreements with contractors involved - from this moment on.
We demand honest and detailed information about the planned refurbishment and what it will mean for current user groups and the natural biodiversity within the Park, as well as a commitment that all improvements be intended first and foremost for the benefit of the Local community, and not solely as a revenue stream for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.
We also demand that the Cafe facility is restored ASAP!
Our plea isn't just about preserving access; it's about safeguarding our community’s health and wellbeing and caring for our natural environment. We urge you to stand with us in protecting our cherished green space - sign this petition today!
