
Fresh doubts have been raised over whether the Government will implement the Triple Lock in full this year (an 8.5% rise in the state pension is due in April 2024 under the formula). As the following article in the Daily Express reveals, the Conservatives are considering intergenerational fairness and fairness to taxpayers in taking their decision on the Lock. This sort of wording usually means a broken promise is on its way.

The Government will confirm its decision in the Autumn Statement on 22 November, so it is essential that we increase the pressure on the Conservatives about the electoral consequences of watering down the Triple Lock, particularly in the light of their recent drubbings in the by-elections.
So, if you have a Conservative MP, please write to them, referring to our petition with over 274,000 signatures, and point out that they will lose thousands more older votes if the Government breaches its manifesto promise on the Triple Lock and tampers with the accepted formula in any way.
