The Issue

My daughter has dedicated three years of her life to pursuing a nursing degree. Throughout this period, she has tirelessly worked unpaid 12-hour shifts during placements, driven by her passion for healthcare and her desire to make a difference in people's lives. Now, as she approaches graduation, she faces the frightening possibility of not securing a job. This situation is deeply concerning, not just for her, but for many other student nurses in the UK who have invested time, energy, and significant financial resources into their education without a guaranteed employment outcome.

Nursing is a vital profession, and the recent global events have highlighted the critical role nurses play in maintaining public health and safety. The UK healthcare system has been repeatedly stretched to its limits, and student nurses have stepped up to fill the gaps, sacrificing their time and well-being. It is disheartening and unfair that, despite these sacrifices, they are left uncertain about their futures after graduation.

We are calling on the National Health Service (NHS) and the Department of Health and Social Care to implement a policy ensuring all student nurses who complete their degrees are guaranteed a job placement upon graduation. By doing so, we can create a more stable and reliable workforce within the healthcare system, improve patient care, and reduce the high turnover rate that is detrimental to both the service providers and patients.

This policy would not only reward the hard work and dedication of student nurses but also strengthen our healthcare services at a time when they are most needed. The NHS should commit to support these aspiring nurses by providing contracts that offer security and career development opportunities.

Please join us in advocating for guaranteed job placements for student nurses. Your support can make a difference in shaping a fair and stable future for those who wish to dedicate their lives to caring for others. Sign this petition to urge the government to take action now.
