Recently Teresa Fann was dismissed from her position as the GCHS cheer coach due to an incident that happened at a Sequatchie Co. basketball game. There were several cyber bullying instances leading up to this basketball game from cheerleaders and other students of Sequatchie Co. Teresa simply stood up for the GCHS cheer team; her girls that she cares greatly about. As a former GCHS cheerleader, I can say without doubt that the entire program has been turned around since Teresa took the coaching position. We enjoyed what we did, but we were sideline cheerleaders. We weren't looked at as athletes or as though we were taking part in a sport. Teresa Fann has completely changed that. Our GCHS cheer team is a two time national champion team!! That's huge. Our cheer team was invited to cheer alongside the University of Tennessee cheerleaders at Neyland Stadium. They are wonderful to watch and they put on a great show. Not only do they compete, but they care about the teams and athletes they cheer for. Buck Sanders once told Teresa that this was the best cheerleading squad he has seen in all his years of attending the games. For anyone that knows anything about Mr. Sanders, that is an amazing compliment. Our cheer team WOULD NOT be where they are today and achieved what they have if not for Teresa Fann. Pay attention to the actions that our cheerleaders have made. They have chosen to stand behind their coach and chosen not to take part in the cheer program without her. She needs to be given back her position. The girls want her and they need her.
