Zoey Johnson is not growing as a character or developing. With every episode she seemingly relearns the same lesson of being selfish, but not growing. It's called Grown-ish after all. We want better for the character and for Zoey not to be so centered around relationships with boys.

There is so much to explore with a young & teenage black girl that could build character development. Seeing Zoey being a normal kid and just hanging out and doing college kid stuff like going to campus activities, goofing off, taking trips, seeing shows together etc. with her friends would be a great way to see another side of her outside of drama or some issue constantly occurring. Drama isn't always needed.

Zoey being shallow and vain could've made a great storyline to develop her by delving into why she is that way and it potentially really being because she is insecure, not feeling good enough or feeling she doesn't live up to people's expectations which a lot girls her age experience and her growing from it. However, Zoey doesn't have to be selfish, vain, shallow and mostly vapid all the time. Show and give more of her personality outside of that. She can be potentially witty, smart, silly, creative, sassy and caring too. Let her GROW!

We didn't get to see her truly shine in Blackish and now is the chance to finally give it to her. The actress who plays her, Yara Shahidi doesn't deserve the shortest end of the stick once more. Most fans want Zoey to be more likable and relatable. So, let's make it happen.
