A compact license is a license that allows nurses to freely practice in their home state as well as other states within the compact license agreement. 34 states have already joined the compact agreement, unfortunately, Michigan is not one those states as House Bill 4042 was vetoed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
 
  Michigan was one of the states with the highest rates of Covid-19. There were many nurses with compact licenses from other states who wanted to come and help us fight the novel COVID-19 virus, but could not due to Michigan not being within the compact agreement. Obtaining a nursing license in a non compact state requires, finger prints, vigorous background checks, and endless amounts of paperwork, which can take weeks to months to process.

   Nurses have played a huge role in fighting Covid-19 and have earned the freedom to practice within the compact states. This not only allows Michigan to receive help from out of state nurses, but it also allows Michigan nurses to expand and continue their knowledge and experiences from working in other states. Please sign the petition for the new House Bill 4046 to pass if you feel that Michigan nurses deserve to have a compact license!
