Raising awareness towards the misuse of antibiotics in humans and animals

Raising awareness towards the misuse of antibiotics in humans and animals
The Issue
Did you know that about 80% of the United States antibiotics are used on animals? Antibiotic resistance has become an ever-growing threat throughout the years as it had become a lethal problem to many. Doctors are having a difficult time treating and curing those with diseases whose treatment have become weakened by antibiotic resistance. Rather yet, it has been proven that the antibiotics that are put in our food animals has to due with a lot of the reason why this continues to go on. In 1996, the National Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System (NARMS), was tracking the resistance of Salmonella, Campylobacter, and other bacteria. Through various blood tests, they came to the conclusion that the resistance was coming form the food animals they were consuming. The medical field has tried to make a change by creating antibiotic stewardship, but as they do further research they come to the conclusion that this is not enough! Why not restrict the use of the antibiotics put in our food as well? This is causing harm to many. In 2013, there were about 480,000 cases of tuberculosis resistancy in the world. Resistancy like this, can lead unfortunate acts of death to many. Not only do these problems apply to Tuberculosis, but to Malaria and HIV as well. The United States has issued a National Action Plan to reduce this antibiotic resistance dilemma. In this Action Plan, it is appropriate to follow the rules in order to prohibit the usage of antibiotic resistancy. Many are reaching in into the problem especially doctors. They have come to a conclusion that the problem here is not only that they are misusing antibiotics in humans, but also the wrong doing of using antibiotics in our food animals for the wrong reasons. Nowadays, about almost all our food animals have been injected with some time of chemical. This can cause cancer and many other leathal diseases. By bringing awareness and making a change, we can all make a difference.
