Death with Dignity Act FOR Texas

Death with Dignity Act FOR Texas
The Issue
End-of-life impacts everyone at some point of our lives and many do not think about it until it happens. Terminal illnesses are part of the end-of-life stage, and it can be physically draining. Death with Dignity Act was first introduced in Oregon in 1997. The law has brought many stances for and against this law. However, the law has brought many patients the options to die peacefully and without any more physical pain. The news and media have brought to our attention stories of terminally ill patients that have moved to Oregon to have the option of taking this medication. It is important to have a law like this in Texas because everyone needs their options at the end-of-their life stage of terminal illness. A law similar to Oregon's Death with Dignity Act in Texas would benefit patients who are suffering and are diagnosed with a terminal illness.
The patient must meet the following criteria for Death with Dignity Act (Physician Assisted Suicide): (1) the patient has to be 18 years or older, (2) must be diagnosed to live six months or less, (3) has to have two written and verbal request to the physician, (4) the physician must evaluate mental stability, (5) the patient decides when and where they want to take the medication.
Passing a law like Oregon's in Texas could help many individuals at their end-of-life stages with a terminal illness. Sign this petition to support a Texas Death with Dignity Act to help support terminally ill patients for the right to have an option to end-their-life if the patient chooses too. Everyone deserves the freedom to choose their own end-of-life options including the Death with Dignity (Physician Assisted Suicide).
