Traditional Greenup County Graduation Class of 2020

Traditional Greenup County Graduation Class of 2020
The Issue
As the seniors of the class of 2020 we respectfully protest the digital graduation event planned for our class. We believe graduation to be a sacred event in which we wish to share "in person" with our friends and family. We humbly ask that a more traditional graduation ceremony simply be postponed until an available date in which we are no longer quarantined. We do not care to wait! We understand that this could be complicated for some and by signing this petition we agree to wait as long as necessary, but this occasion is important to us and we believe in a fulfilling conclusion to our educational journey. We appreciate your ideas about a digital graduation but such an event would only be disappointing after the unfortunate series of events that have already transpired. We seniors didn't get to experience the last few months of high school due to an abrupt but necessary quarantine. We did not even know that day would be the last we would get to see some of our closest friends and instructors. Having our graduation in a digital format would serve as a reminder of what we lost not a celebration of what we had. We wish to see each other and our constituents one last time face to face. As students of GCHS for four years we hope that you the board of education understands our issues with the digital event and wish to cooperate. These are very desperate times for everyone. The senior class of 2020 just wants hope for a proper sendoff. As each day passes we have less and less to look forward to. We could all use a little hope right now.
