Greenhill students should be able to choose how many courses they can take.

The Issue

With the new change to the semester block schedule, students are now limited to 8 courses per semester. Courses include TBF, extracurriculars on campus, ie. Robotics, Debate, Theater, etc. and any courses students take during the school day. This means that if a student has a full schedule, they are limited to one extracurricular, or are unable to take any if they are taking TBF. This is extremely limiting considering that if a student wanted to take 7 classes, and tbf, then they can not take any courses outside of that. Some students are being told that they cannot take 7 classes, TBF and Robotics, others cant take 7 classes, Debate, and Theater, or TBF. Students know their limitations and how many classes they can take, so they should be able to decide how many courses they take based off of their past performance in classes. Students should be allowed to take courses that challenge them, and that they are passionate about.

Our proposal: The recommendation for the amount of courses students take should be 8 courses, but students should be able to take more with their parent or advisor’s approval.
